HTC Titan questions

OK, had this a few days and pretty much love it compared to the lagfest that was android.. I am however starting to miss some of my most daily used apps!

A few questions that I hope have simple answers!?

1; In the People Hub thing, how do I get it to update on it's own, it will only load data when I enter it and then does bug me.

2; I have had problems with webpages not loading properly in IE, most notably UK Tyres Online | Cheap Tyres | Winter Tyres & Car Servicing can anyone else confirm this is an WP7 IE problem or not just my phone? Is there a better browser?

3; I used to run a program that would manage profiles based on GPS location, wifi etc, so when I left my home cell it would turn my wifi off and my bluetooth on , then when I got home the opposite. Also another app that would put my phone into silent everynight between 12 and 7. Anything like that available on WP7?

4; Seriously missing my Subcard app!

5; Anyway of seeing battery use and estimated remaining battery time?

There's probably other issues that i can't think of yet. I do love the smooth slick operation of the phone, but the complete lockdown compared to Android is quite shocking. The options are very limited! Biggest issue really though is the lack of apps and cost of the ones that are free on Android. New OS though so I'm sure with time it will improve, especially now Nokia is onboard.

Anyone know if Nokia maps can be used on the HTC?

Sadly all those issues can be solved if the marketplace had more apps!!!

The OS is perfect but when you don't have the apps you really aren't left with much, I tried that website (Omnia 7) and the page didn't appear correctly.

1. You can't. If you pin yourself to the home screen the tile will show when you have Twitter mentions and facebook interactions. I guess the reasoning is why use expensive network time (in terms of battery) to download data you may never read?

2. I've not had any real issues, the occasional site doesn't work. That site loads if you go into settings and switch to desktop mode. It's probably not been built particularly well and never been tested on these devices. Any browsers in the marketplace will use IE rendering, but you really shouldn't need another one.

3. Microsoft thankfully don't let random third party devs mess with things like this. It's something they or the phone manufacturers would have to create. I can see it would be useful, but I don't want third party apps to have access to anything outside of their sandboxes. There is an official place to request features for WP, monitored by the WP team.

Feature Suggestions for Windows Phone

4.

5. Settings > battery saver will show you % and estimated remaining.

You can't officially use Nokia Maps on any other device. I believe it has been cracked, but :lesson:

There is at least one other GPS turn by turn app, I don't know if it's any good though.

The reason it runs so well is because it is so locked down. Once you open things up other apps start to use resources and you end up with Android.

As to Nokia Maps availability on non Lumia devices, I can confirm that it is currently being developed and tested on non Nokia devices and should be available in Q1 / 2012. Nokia have made a commitment to do this but I can tell you it will not be that long (I work with the guy involved with the testing in the UK).

Ha, we just need a load more decent apps now. I love WP7 (own an Omnia 7 and Lumia 800) but getting hacked off at the lack of decent apps.

Well there's some good and bad news there then. The lack of profile software is going to be frustrating for me as I use that to save battery instead of leaving everything on all day.

4; Subway card application. Very useful for me.

Nokia maps is not really something I'm majorly concerned with as I have Satnav in all vehicles but, we are road tripping America this year and the pre-downloadable maps will save a fortune! Must say the apps are disappointing really and the high costs frankly shocking, but I'll persevere for now and hopefully things will improve. But I guess I'll never get everything I want as Microsoft have locked the OS down so much.

I've downloaded Nokia Drive on my Omnia 7, really cool offline Sat Nav rememer with the iPhone you have to pay for the Tomtom costing around £30.

Will be free to all Wp7 devices in Jan/Feb.

To see how much battery you have left go to the home screen and just pull down from the top of the phone, and down pops the baattery, your signal and other things

Thx for the links, haven't actually got a Titan yet but seriously considering getting one. I would be coming from a Htc Sensation Xe and would be my first Windows phone. Anyone else made the jump and glad they did? Or didn't for that matter.

You can get your podcasts through Zune without the need for an app.

Is there any way you can get these little icons/notifications for battery, signal etc to stay there instead of going back up again...?
