HTC S710 - or Laptop

I'm toying with the idea of getting the HTC S710, so that I can check emails etc when I am away, and because of its portability.

I know very little about these, and I am wondering whether to go for one or buy a laptop. The obvious advantage is that it doubles as a mobile phone and a pocket PC, or am I mistaken.

I'd welcome advice about this 'phone and/or if another model is better.

I have an s710 but won't consider it as a laptop alternative. Decent phone but It's non 3G so web access is too slow by todays standards. I'll rather get a cheap netbook.
