I`ve just had a demo of the 300+ ( a poor one !) - and was staggered with how poorly it dealt with "poor" dvd`s.

I always like to use the region 2 version of john carpenters "the thing" - the dog running over the snow, being chased by a helicopter. The end of this scene is a shot of the outside of the research station, showing the nameplate, telephone wires and buildings. This was unwatchable - stairstepping , everything was "jittery". This dvd is non - anamorphic , but I previously owned a ht200 fed by a Skyworth 1050 , and it was nowhere near this bad - I was expecting the increased resolution and internal Faroudja to improve things somewhat.

    Anyone else seen this ??

Its a shame, because I was convinced this was going to be my next projector - the salesman said it looked great with more recent dvd`s (which it did) - but what about all the old ones ?.

The projector was being fed interlaced via component (Denon A1 )

    Hi,

I think this comes down to being either incorrectly setup or possibly some sort of fault - maybe the player?
This is one of my all-time favourite DVD's and I have the HT300 (not the+) and have viewed this film in interlaced and progressive and have never seen the problems you describe above with any age DVD's that I have
    The picture is stunning
I would suggest you try a different dealer to demo:confused:

Definately do not base your findings from this demo
    Good luck

I will definately try to get another demo - my worry is that it was Owls demo Ht300+ which the dealer had borrowed , and it had ()supposedly) been setup by the Owl rep the day before !. I can`t believe that though - the colour and brightness settings were both at 70 for a start, and there was no remote (used a pronto).

I agree on the film though - so the projector MUST be able to handle it well for me to part with my hard-earned !!

    cheers mate

    Steve,

Definately stick with it, I'm very very happy with my pj and I'm also extremely fussy...
The HT300+ is even better - I know you won't be disappointed

    Best wishes

    Hi tiberious,

Jeff is definitely worth a visit if you can get there.

He's not one of these showroom guys that will just set up a pj out of the box and let you watch it in non-ideal conditions with no real product knowledge.

From my own experience, I know you'll get a great demo and will get a much better idea of what a particular pj can do.

    Gary.

    Tiberious,
    A few weeks ago I posted a review of the 300+ v`s the 12HT.

I thought the 300+ would burn the 12HT.

But I liked the 12HT so much,I bought that instead!!

Its only recently that posts have started appearing on AVS where the 300+ is being criticised for being dim-no punch to the colours and artifacts-noise.

Now its either that every 300+ is incorrectly setup OR its not as good as it was cracked up to be.

I cannot believe it is the former.

Comparisons I have read of the 300+ v`s the Marantz S2-favour the Marantz.

..The same goes for the comparisons with the Infocus 7200.

The Yamaha DPX 1000 is reckoned to be better than the Marantz.

The JVC SX21 is reckoned to be better than the 300+-Hell,some have even said the Nec HT1000 is better than the 300+.

The Sharp Z10000 is reckoned to be on a par with the Infocus 7200.

The 300+ Is being judged as the worst overall-but the most expensive.

Wait for the 400-or buy something else..
    CK.

The HT300+ has a great punchy image when set up properly in a good environment. The best HD2 chipped unit I have seen is not available in this country just now though.....DWIN.....
