I have been informed that my unit will not be available until the first week in January due to Sony recalling all HS50 models.
If this is due to the 720p overscan problem or that some bulbs seemed to be faulty (or both) I don't know.
I know that I now won't have it for a few weeks but when spending this sort of money you want the product to be spot on. I think Sony do too.
If this is true and not just a distributor covering his back then nice one Sony.
At least they realise that there is a problem and want to put it right.

Gents, I suggest you get on to your distributor and check this info ASAP.

having said that i'd rather wait if it means fixing the 720p problem.

I hope that this is true and thats why they are recalling as this pretty much a deal breaker for me tbh.

I am not 100% where mine is coming from. One of my best friends owns a computer shop and getting me at cost. He is getting it from his distributor.

My friend has been in touch with the MD supplier who has been in touch with Sony UK.

Maybe its bull. Maybe its not.

I can understand Sony wanting to get it spot on. It really could be a kick ass machine.

    That is all I know

Do you think the various (mixed) reports of bright and dull HS50's have any link to this bulb (recall) issue.
    Or just different people's opinions?

Would you post your findings? I would be interested to know what the problem is as well.

    Cheers

I'll call my dealer too. I bumped into a SONY projector rep last week however when swapping my original loan HS50 for my actual one when it arrived and he never mentioned the HS50 being recalled.

They are the distributor this morning to see if they know anything about it.

I've contacted my supplier and there is nout!

Think it may be an excuse as to why so few models have arrived at these shores.

Sounds like BS mate. Sony seem to be opening new consumer distributor accounts but won't be shipping stock to the ditributors until at least January.

I spoke to my retailer and he has heard nothing.

It's just a rumour, probably spread by retailers who can't get stock.

I remember this rumour being mentioned over at AVSForum on their huge HS51 thread. The rumour has probably just started from there and spread

Right, hopefully this shed some light.
I have spoken to the shop where I bought mine from this afternoon and they have confirmed from the distributors that there is no recall for the HS50.

There is no problem associated with faulty lamps that sony know.

Well that's what I was told, and I fully agree with the other posters on this topic that it was rumours due to virtually no stock being available in the UK.

    Jason.

    Cheers all

Obviously they have no stock and are using bullsh*t to cover their backs.
