Sony are going through a strange phase at the moment. Some companies have just stopped dealing with them altogether. All is not what it seems!

If true, it must be the shortest lived product ever.

Not simply terms of the time since it was released, but because for 50% of that very short time there was hardly any stock available.
I was lucky... I got one of the first HS50's at Xmas, but I reckon its really only been widely available for 2 or 3 months!

Then there have been people who waited weeks for firmware updates to fix the blanking issue. Not sure if this has still been fully resolved.

Surely this is not normal marketing practice and suggests that Sony have either identified a fundamental design flaw (blanking issue?) they can't fix, or that they will release their next machine early to react to the affordable DLP's now hitting the market.

Something is going on... and I'd love to know what it is.

We were told by our Sony rep yesterday that Sony have incoming stock early August, this is confirmed by the Sony stock computer. This can't be considered 100% but should be accurate.

I must emphasise that some pretty major players (especially people with websites) are just not stocking Sony any more, quite understandably imho! They make great products but the UK company are just arrogant and treat their dealers with a degree of 'healthy contempt'.

There is of course the distinct possibility we are wrong, but I don't think it's as strightforward as it appears.

Wouldn't be suprised. Just before I bought my projector (HS50), I bought a really small Sony MP3 player. Great little device, with loads of promise for firmware upgrades etc. Sony pretty much drops it from their line within only a couple of months. Brilliant player it is too, especially compared to the rather large new flash player models their pushing (the pen looking ones, with, I accept, better screen).

    Cheers

Must admit I thought it strange when I bought mine for a reduced price at my nearest Sony shop in May.When I asked the store manager for the reason it had been reduced he said it was being replaced with a more expensive model and his area boss had told him there would be no more HS50 stock.
    Strange times these!

I was all set to get a HS50, but the folks here have pretty much convinced me to switch to a 7700, just gotta check I don't suffer from the rainbow effect.

I'll feel better buying a brand that doesn't treat its customers with the contempt that Sony seems to, at least going by what I've read around here. And if they treat the retailers as badly then I'm not surprised they're getting dropped.

BTW AVLand had them as discontinued at least a week ago, I was a bit concerned when I first saw it.

If that Sony unit is priced at similar level to the HS50, the DLP manufacturers will be pooping themselves.

    Somehow I doubt it though.

The Sanyo Z4.... 5000:1 contrast and 22db! Wouldn't that make it the quietest projector yet?

A Greek fella over on avsforums reckons the VW100 is a single chip SXRD device
    Thats a pretty extreme rumour.

'car_rod' over here on avsforums reckons its a two year old post on pipro's page.
