What advantage is there in using Auto VBR in XP mode. The manual says Auto VBR switches the resolution of the recording according to the image, but if you're recording at the maximum bit rate wouldn't it be better to set the VBR to Fixed.

If you only ever use XP ,then yes.But you can't put everything on to dvd at XP

even if you don't use XP mode surely a fixed bit rate would be better.
If for example I wanted to record a 2 hour film and set it it a 2 hr recording time, then using VBR mode it may use less bitrate on some scenes, but it needs to have enough space regardless of what scenes (that may not need a high bitrate) to fit all the film on the disc.
Is this totally wrong?
I dont know but makes sense to me
