I read on here that there is a firmware for the lip synch error on the hs2 available from pannasonic, so I have contacted them, and they have emailed back, to arrange for an engineer to call with the disc. Before I proceed, has anyone had this upgrade?

The reason for asking is my machine is m/region, so I need to know if that will be changed by the upgrade.

Also, does it improve the flash on rgb inputs
Does it have any affect on existing functions, ie worse playback or recording etc!

    Interested in any views.

    Ali.

Interesting - I rang Panasonic's helpline to be told that they know that the lip synching problem exists, but there's nothing that can be done about it, and denied there was any firmware update available.

I also emailed them via their web site, but got no reply. Which address did you email them with?

I was wondering the same thing about whether a firmware update would mean a loss of multi-region. Presumably the engineer that turns up will be able to tell you - let us know what happens...

I attach a copy of my original email, and the reply from pannasonic. I have not yet replied - awaiting info re multi region!

I hoped it would be done by disc, but reading the reply, they may need to take it away with them :(

    "Dear Mr Cooper,

    Thank you for your e-mail.

In , Response I would advise that there is a modification for the lip sync
error on the DVD-HS2. Please provide the following information.

    - serial number

necessary you will be contacted by our technical staff to clarify the
problem. Then you would be contacted 3-5 days after by our technical

of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate
to contact us on 08705 357357 or customer.care@panasonic.co.uk and we will

    Mr Alistair Cooper

    Query:
I have a DMR-HS2 dvd recorder, which exhibits a lip synch error, plus in
certain situations, a flash on rgb inputs.
I understand that this has been resolved in newer firmware versions of this model and the E100. My device was purchased in Nov 03 so still within
warranty. I would like to know if there is a firmware update available; and if so, how I would do it.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Alistair.

I too emailed Panasonic regarding the lip synch problem. I had no reply off them for almost 2 weeks so contacted them last night via their "contact us" email link on their website. I received a reply today which reads:

"Thank you for your e-mail enquiry.

I am sorry to learn of the circumstances, which have prompted you to write, and can appreciate your disappointment that the above unit developed a problem in the first 12 months.
To service for your DMR-HS2 please reply this mail detailing whether you require an exchange product (delays will be experienced) or your own unit repaired and returned to you.
I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on 08705 357357 or customer.care@panasonic.co.uk and we will endeavour to assist.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION: lip sycnh issue with SKY"

This sounds like they are offering me a replacement machine!
I wonder what the exchange product will be as the HS2 is now discontinued I believe. Perhaps this is why "delays will be experienced". Are the new machines better than the HS2 or would I be best to get my HS2 repaired?
I'll wait to see if anyone has any advice before contacting Panasonic again.

Personally, though I could be wrong, I would expect this to be a refurb of some sorts...

You were right! I emailed Panasonic again to ask them what the exchange product would be and they said a re-conditioned HS2.
I'm not too sure what to do now as I'm not very keen on having a re-conditioned machine, especially as there is an estimated delay of about 4 weeks!

I believe it is a problem with all HS2's until very recently. I can't be more specific and I may be wrong!

Just adding that my purchase yesterday of the E85 has already shown lip-sync issues recording a broadcast (ITV) from NTL-Digital.
