    Hi!

I own a VPL-HS50 since early last year. Up until know I've been feeding it with a component signal from a Toshiba SD-900E DVD player and I am very pleased with the results.

I am now considering buying the much acclaimed OPPO OPDV-971H -E player.

Can those of you who've made this transition (Component--->DVI/HDMI, not necessarily from an Oppo) tell me if the improvement in picture quality justifies the investment.

    Thanks for any replies.

Hi. I can't comment on your DVD player, but we demoed HDMI and component from an Arcam DV79 and a Denon 3910 when we bought our HS50, and HDMI was better on both - sharper, better colours and less noise. Whether it's worth your extra investment though, only you can tell - component was still very good. Try and get a demo.:)

    I too use a HS 50 ...

Mine is feed HDMI and Component simultaniously from my DVD 5 via a JS technology component buffer.

I can confirm that the difference between HDMI (DVI) and component is well worth an upgrade, although DVD's with edge enhancement turned on are rather nasty...

Have a demo and see for yourself

Yep another thumbs up for hdmi over component.Switching between the two on my Arcam dv79 shows the hdmi to provide a clearer and more defined picture on my hs50.
Probably the only way to improve on that again would be to spend out on a decent scaler. It's all very subjective really.
