I loved the old Viera design, but the PV500 is just plain ugly and strange...gloss black frame with brown stripes running across it?!

Off my shopping list, no matter how good the picture.

Panasonic have misjudged this one - sleek looks make the sales on the showroom floor, and they won't have price on their side for many more weeks...

    Couldn't disagree more.
    Best looking plasma.
    Best looking picture.
All the more left for those of us with taste.
It's all the other ones with terrible pictures that are ugly.

imo it makes the plasma too big (and ugly). It wont fit in the space in my living room so have to wait for panel only version.

Agreed. But there are no brown stripes, though.

No brown stripes, and the picture is A1, I like the gloss finish matches my fire place.

I wouldnt call the PV500 ugly but I know what you mean re the old viera design - much much nicer to look at. Whilst the PV500 looks nice on the cabinet stand, it doesnt have the same "wow" factor as the older model and to me it looks downright clumsy when using a desk stand.

It wasn't what I expected. The PV500 looked bulky, especially compared to the PA50 and the Pioneer next to it. It isn't exactly ugly, but it looks (and is) big. It's PQ is outstandig though. I preferred it slightly over the PA50. Still, I might opt for the PA50, because of it's slimmer looks and substantially lower price.
