I use the above combination with a Technics SH-AC300 DD processor. I like the sound of the current setup but I want to upgrade the system for PLII and EX/ES. I looking to spend up to £400 so a separate processor is out of my reach. I plan to buy an new AV amp and use its decoded preamp outputs to feed my current AV setup for 5.1 and use the new AV amp amplified output to drive the rear centre (back) only. Is this a good idea and any opinons on the best AV amp at this price given that it will only be used for decoding? I'm thinking of using a Marantz, Yamaha or Denon AV amp.

P.S. The system is used for HC 99% of the time.

    Current System (In converted garage)
    Sony vph722 CRT projector
    Philips Q40 DVD player
    Mission 752 + 75C + 77DS
    Rel Q Bass
    Technics SH-AC300 DD processor.
    Arcam Xeta 2 AV Amp.
    Arcam Delta 290 (Fronts+Stereo).
    Arcam Alpha 5 CD player.

Choose an amp which is closest in sound to the Arcam gear you are currently using. I think either a Denon or Marantz amp could fit the bill. Yamaha is much brighter than Arcam.

But why not go and listen to the brilliant Arcam AVR200 to replace your Xeta 2+290?

Thanks for the info. I had thought of replacing both units with the Arcam AVR200 but it would depend on how much I could raise from selling my current setup.

Your comment on the Yamaha is interesting I'm not keen on a bright sound.

Time for a few demos. I think..
