How to retrieve data from an old hard disc

    My mate has asked me to uprade his hard drive this i have done with a clean install of windoze xp sp1 the problem is how do i retrieve data from the old hard drive? if i try to access his "my documents" folder access is denied.
    The old drive is connected as a slave & access is via the new windows install.

    Check this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article on How to Modify NTFS Permissions.

    Although your problem is more complicated considering that you do not have access the the files.

    I think i'll just boot from his old drive & copy the files. I always wanted to know how to retrieve data from an old boot disc....easily :)
    The old os was win xp pro BTW.
