How to play a video from a phone on a TV screen?

Hi,

I have a stupid question, my mother has a phone, with a video on it, she wants to know if it can be played on the TV.

My TV is the Panasonic 47ET5B (2012)

I would need to know how to connect the phone to the TV, if it is possible, and then a rough idea of what to do.

Many thanks.

is this not an LCD/LED TV?

try posting in the phones forum or at least post the make/model here you could be asking something the phone is not capable of, you may need to xfer to a computer then computer to TV.

All modern TV's should have similar functionality, regardless of the technology used for the display, which is why I put it where I did, but I am sure it will be fine in here also.

The phone is capable, my question is related to the capability/procedure of televisions

I know how to play it on the PC, I think there is a possibility it can go straight into the TV these days.

Which is what I am trying to find out

I will try the phone section if I get no joy here.

My last 3 TVs have been able to do it with my android phones....apps like Skifta are capable of streaming straight to the TV. You need to have the TV and phone connected to the same network and then open the app on you phone. Find the video and then select the playback device (the TV). Alternatively if the phone and TV both have Wifi Direct then the video doesn't even need to go through your router.

The 47ET5B at the very least has DLNA so if using Android then apps like Skifta will certainly see the TV as a "playback device". My Panasonic ST50 works fine in this way with my Samsung Galaxy S2, just takes a good few seconds for the video to load, especially if it's 1080p. Not sure about Apple but I would have thought there'd be an equivalent app.

This is great stuff many thanks.

The phone is a Samsung, it is a modern one it has touch screen but I do not know which one it is I can try and find out.

So what on earth is Android lol and Skifta is an APP that I find on the phone? I was kinda assuming I would need to plug the phone into the TV, but this is not the case?

Pretty much just want to view a video on a bigger screen than the phone screen, nothing fancy, I think I can connect it to a PC via the USB and browse it however I was hoping to be able to plug it straight into the TV, or something.

Android is a rival to Apple, it's one of the common types of smartphone out there, like Apple and Blackberry. It is the phone's operating system software not a particular brand, and a lot of the top makes of smartphone, Samsung included, use it.

Some modern phones have an hdmi socket which would allow you to plug it straight into the TV. Best to have at look what cables are in the box, if you still have it.

If your phone is up to date enough, seeing as it's a Samsung, it will have an app called Allshare which will do the job perfectly. Skifta is an app which does exactly the same thing but it has to be downloaded, it doesn't come with the phone.

I can run video from an Ipad/Ipod touch with the Viera Remote app (iOS) to a 47ET5, but it doesn't like native video, it only ran smoothly when it had been emailed and was a lower quality. There is a review of the DT50 on the Daily Telegraph Tech section. The guy runs the Viera app on android without issue. Guess it may depend on the phone as well and your network

Also look in the Smart TV section of this forum, there a a few threads on there which may help
