    Hello,

I hope somebody could help me with this problem.

I have the usual setup for video capturing and editing:
Sony HC42, capture to PC through firewire, edit then
create and burn DVD (using Magix). So far everything works Ok.

But when I try to play the created DVD in my DVD player, no
sound goes to the amplifier. The audio link between DVD Player and
amplifier is optical cable. However, the sound goes Ok to TV
through the SCART connector I use for the video link between the
    DVD Player and TV.

Everything works fine for commercial DVDs.

Does anybody know what my be the problem? Is this possible at all?

    thanks,
    Adrian

I never use the digital audio outputs on my DVD players so I'm hardly an expert on this, but I would start by checking the relevant menu to see if Dolby Digital has been disabled on the optical output.

As I said, I only have the problem with my own created DVDs.
Sound goes Ok through the optical with "normal" DVDs. So I don't
think it is a settings problem, more like related to the format of the
    sound (??).

The chances are that the software you use to create the DVD is not able to encode Dolby Digital audio. Therefore you need to set the DVD player to output PCM Audio via the digital link to the receiver.

    Thanks Mark,

After all, John was right :). It's all about settings.
I'll play with this in the evening, but I know already that this is the
reason. Next time I create a DVD, I'll make sure to encode the
sound in Dolby Digital (if possible).
