    I have one Sony G70.
    Installation manual.
    And more questions than answers!!

One a HTPC under construction, with ATI-9700 and H3G card on the way.

I will keep my home cinema room dark, mainly use the equipment it for movies.
The distance from the screen to the place where we are sitting is 4m.

How big screen size should I maximum have?

Is there any way to get microperf screen to low prices???

I was planning to start with DIY, and start saving for something good, recommendations!!!.

I have understood that I need a test DVD to help me out to get the best calibration.
Is their any one particular or is there some software for the PC that could be equally good for the purpose.

I'd go with 7 - 8ft wide at that distance. AVIA is a good NTSC set up disc. No idea how to hget micro-perf at good price. You could try finding a US dealer who would sell material only

    Nice job!

size of screen is a hotly debated subject and it varies between what is considered by experts as the closest reproduction of cinema to what the maximum is achivaible by the equipment.

I would have thought with your viewing distance of 4m you should aim for a screeen about 2.4m wide. Though you may have to drop this further if your use a perforated screen.

Send me an emial if you want a quote for perforated material

AVIA or Video Essentails are the best video setup disks.
For PC set up I would down load the Nokia test pattern (do a search loads of sites with it on or I could send a copy).

    Hi Roland

Thanx for all help, email is on the way.......

So I can go for a 120" screen...
I was hoping that I could go that big

    Then one more, issue

The distance between roof an floor is 2.4m.
Will this influence the placement of the CRT.
Because the standard in europe is 2.6m isn't it??

The Sony G70 projects down very low, much lower than Barcos. I seem to recall that the projection angle is 15 degrees. You will almost certainly need to use a 16x9 screen, and it will probably be about 0.6m from the floor. If you can give me exact dimensions I will work it out for you.

    10K Thanx

Okay the height from the roof to floor is 238 cm
I was thinking about diagonal 100" or 120" screen ref Roland's reply.

I was initially planning to mount the projector on the same roof, but maybe I have to make a hole in the roof then??

I'm not an expert but from what I read in the installaton manual and from using PJCALC its my understanding that the G70 projection angle can be set to any angle over the range of -2 to +15 degree.

Yes, but anything but its default position, and you start to compromise performance.

    Thanx,
but if I raise the area the Projector is mounted with 10cm
then I maybe can get a 4:3 to work at 110"
or is there some recomended distance from the floor.
