how to make background opaque in photoshop ?

    Hi im doing a web site at the moment and want to put a background photo on the site under neath some text, i tried a image but its to colour full . how do i make a image a so its not solid so its a bit opaque and soft looking so you can just make it out ? I have photoshop elements ? many thanks graham

    i think the easy way would be copy the layer so its not a background then press 1 to 9 on your keyboard, this will change the opacity. After you have done this change your background layer a solid colour. That should do the trick. If your using it for the web click “file” and “save for web” this will help with optimizing it.
