My HD TV is component only (a previous model).

When I switch to BBC it shows the picture for a minute and then says "this has been stopped by the BBC from going through HD analogue connection"

anyone know a hack around this stupid restriction ?

Yes, go to the BBC HD channel in non-freesat mode. It lets you view it then.

indeed, many thx

actually the new firmware doesn't have "non-freesat" switch any more.
but going into manual scan switches it on and gets loads more channels and other HD channels as well :)

now i just wish someone brings out a hacked firmware which looks more like a real sat receiver with the various options and sftc@ms ... :)
