If I have a M-Audio 24/96 card and a dvd-rom drive is there any software available whereby I can take full advantage of DVD-A and SACD?

    Cheers

Some hope from WinDVD news here, though there is suspicion this may be a downmixed acess to the DVD-A material.

Got this by asking a similar question on the RME newsgroup.

Nothing does SACD yet, and Soundblaster Audigy 2 does DVD-A.

Yeah, copy-protected DVD-A content *will not* be reproduced at full resolution unless you have an Audigy2.

On all other hardware platforms the bitstream is downsampled to 16/48, irrespective of whether your card has 24/96 DACs or not.

BUT, it works at least. :)

I have a Prodigy 7.1 that does 24/88 with DVD Audio.

Sound quality is excellent - it is just the interconnects to connect PC to HC which lower the quality slightly

PC in dining room HC is sitting room 6x3m stereo interconnects from B & Q

    Thanks for your responses.

A standalone player seems to be the immediate solution - but I think I'll hang on - I'm reasonably happy with stereo & 16bit CDs!!!
