After languishing in my garage for many years I have just set up my Garrard turntable & Rotel amp combined with new Q Acoustics speakers & new speaker cable. I am having trouble eliminating buzz & hum which is there whether an LP is playing or not. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Faulty amp possibly, could be dried out electrolytic caps since it's languished in your garage for years.

I agree with JayCee, more than likely power supply caps.
Is the turntable earthed and if you completely disconnect the turntable, does the buzz and hum remain?

My first thought was the amp so before using it I had it professionally looked over & they corrected a channel that kept dropping out & a sticky mute switch. The buzz & hum is there whether the deck is connected or not. I think you are probably right about the amp being the problem. So I`m going to take it back to the same company who did the repairs (1 channel dropping out & a sticky mute switch) Will report back later.

This should have been mentioned in your original post.

Shame on you for not guessing that.
