I have a WinXP disc but for some reason it only installs, it does not format the drive

What happens when you try to format using the XP disc?

Plenty of bootdisk images here though http://www.bootdisk.com/

Plenty of freeware boot and utility CD's on torrent sites.

I'd be more concerned why the XP format utility won't work. If it's unable to format you disk then it's likely to be a hardware fault with the hard disk.

The disc does not have the option to format - its a disc that came with PC and it installs XP but not with a format - just installs over what you have already

It came with a seperate disc that would format dic, allow you to partion etc but in house move no idea where it went

Can you boot from the CD? If not, then the CD doesn't have a boot image. You'll need to make a bootable CD, which is very easy.

Copy the contents of the CD to C:\XPCD then follow the instructions outlined here.
