    Hi,

Went to Richer Sounds on Romford this week and got myself a replacement for my broken Prologic Amp.

While I was there I was taken in by the two Plasma Screens they had running.

The 42PMA4000 caught my eye as being the better of the two, the other being a 42 LG screen.

Now I am sorely tempted get one of these to replace my Ageing 29" Sony, but am a bit unsure of how to connect up my equipment.

The talk of converter, RGB-Component cables.. etc, has knocked my enthusiasm a bit.

I have a Sky Box and a DVD Player. At the moment both use RGB and the Sky box routes through the DVD player.
    I have a Video connected using Scart and a PS2 using S-Video.

What would I need to connect all four to the screen?

Another question I would like to ask is, does the screen auto change the input, or is this a manual process?

And do you have to switch the screen setting when a 16:9 input is viewed after a 4:3 one?

    Many Thanks,

    Paul Ryder.

my pioneer 433mxe doesn't auto switch
You have to do this manually.

I think the Aspect switching process to displays is done
via a control signal down the scart lead.

Very few plasmas seem to have a scart option.

The ones that do tend to be the ones with built in tuners
which within these forums arn't overly rated.

plasma's also vary a great deal in what i/p options they have.

My 433MXE has a large range of i/p's available
    but doesn't include a scart.

The denon 3803 aV amp can upconvert video signals to component. Not sure whether you have an AMP but this feature is useful for plazy owners.

Check the specs of all your shortlists carefully.
    It's a minefield out there.

Hitachi market a very similar screen with an AV connector box as model 42PD3000 which has three scarts (2RGB) and component. Not sold by Richer but wdely available for £3k approx.

If you search this forum under 42PMA400 you will find posts on connection options. One solution appears to feed a RGB signal into the component inputs taking the sync from the composite video input. The D-sub connector will not take an AV signal.
