How to connect projector to sound system

Novice Member
Hi there,

I'm new to.... "home theatre" (I say loosely because it's still in my living room...), I have a LG HU70LA projector and the sound is like listening to a tin can.

So I'm in the market for a sound system for the living room - which is kinda narrow, an amp and good speakers would be wasted here as it's all kinda too close so doesn't have the rear space for a great rear effect (rear speakers will be right next to the couch)

here's a diagram of the living room:

So my pickle is that the projector is one side of the room, but the sound bar/amp / whatever I go with will be at the front of the room.
from googling I'm reading that HDMI is the best means for connection, but this is going to be over 5 meters if I was to connect projector to the sound system... what do I do? I don't want to spend £xxxx on a system only to have to connect via a limiting connection...

Any help is appreciated!
