Don't think this has been on a thread on here so I thought I'd link to it while it's still on iPlayer.... Interesting for some anyway..

HOW TO BUILD A SATELLITE

Yes an excellent programme, which I saw when it was broadcast last Sunday.

I liked the bit at the beginning, when one of the highly skilled construction team had boasted to his next door neighbour that he worked on satellites.

"Oh, you mean you put them on walls" was the reply.

Typical!

Yes I thought that was hilarious - especially as I am a satellite installer:D & when he said ... "they just don't understand" .. he must have had a really thick neighbour.......

Interesting stuff though.. temperature extremes & all those really specialist materials they use ..

I thought that this was interesting specifically to posters in the Satellite forum.

Watched this again last evening and was intrigued by the comment that there is less satellite delay these days, now they've gone to digital.

I assume the person building the satellite must know what he's talking about, but I don't see how the delay can be any less, as both analogue and digital signals travel at the speed of light.
