I have the Optimum AV Slimline display stand which, until recently, has been the home of my plasma. Well times and tastes change and the display has now gone 'upstairs' to the bedroom where, ideally, I want it to hold a 36" CRT TV.

The top shelf is made of 10mm safety glass that complys to 'British Safety Standard BS6206A' - that doesn't mean much to me and the BSI site doesn't seem to expand much other than give me even more codes.

Therefore my question is: can the 10mm safety glass take the weight of a 36" TV (85kg)? Can anyone help?

Hi, I have a Alphason glass AV rack with a 10mm toughened glass top shelf.

It has a rating of 125 KG and holds my 85Kg Sony 32" Wega no problem.

The guy in the shop reckons it has held a 36" version of my telly that weighs 100Kg, so you shouldn't have a problem.

I think a lot of the strength comes from the tension in the supporting legs, but I may be wrong.

Have a look on the Alphason site for more details.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

Thanks for the replies guys - I will put the CRT on the shelf. If I suddenly disappear from the forums you can assume it cracked and cut me in two :)

The 10mm top shelf toughened safety glass has been tested to withstand a maximum weight IN EXCESS OF 500 KILOS (television size illustrated - 36 inches : weight approximately 100 kilos!).

Taken from Optimums official website www.optimum2000.com
