    Hi,
I have just purchased a Sky+ STB from Powerhouse. I had it installed today (by a local installer) and its initial EPG software was 1.18. I have now updated it.

I am wondering how old the box is because it has two problems.
    1. The hard drive whines, 2. I have programmed the remote to control a Panasonic TV which at first appears successful (the TVs volume can be controlled) but then the Sky button doesn't work. After a few minutes the Sky button starts working again but then the TV controls stop working.

Any thoughts anyone? Also will I have to take it back to Powerhouse to get the faults rectified or will Sky do it?

    TIA Richard

According to HCC SKY take responsibility for faults when the box has been purchased from a high street retailer.

As for the age of the box, the best indication is the version number listed in the system details.
I bought mine early september and it's a 9F2003, unlike many others I have had no problems with the hard drive or over heating.
I believe SKY+ also comes in versions 9F2005/9F2009.

Things go from bad to worse. Powerhouse are refusing to replace my box
because they say by using an indepedant installer I have invalidated my
warranty. I'm sure the Sale of goods Act gives me the right to a refund but
up to now Powerhouse are just refusing to do anything. Sky are sympathetic
but ultimately aren't going to help me. Nowhere on the packaging did it say
that sky only could install it. The model no is 9F003

    Any thoughts?

    Regards richard

Tell Powerhouse you are going to write to trading standards. See what they say. If they didnt explicitly tell you to use a Sky installer or Sky themselves, and the product obviously needs installing they must take responsibility.

If there are remote control problems and the disk is making noise it is not of merchantable quality so they should replace it.

If this doesnt work I would actually contact Trading standards.
