    Hi,

    I have a 32in 100Hz normal TV and a cheap(£100) branded DVD player.
I using a scart lead in RGB format.

I'd like to know, is it worth me buying a more expensive player, as i have a large amount of DVD's now, and I'd like to get the best out of them?

    Thanks for any help

Try picking up a Toshiba SD220 from Richer Sounds.

Great picture and sound and very cheap.

I have been wondering the same myself given that I have an 81am Loewe Vitros CRT TV. It's component RGB SCART capable but doesn't support non-interlaced pictures. I'm also after a replacement for my ailing Marantz CD52 CD player and had been considering everything from a Pioneer 565A/656A, Denon DVD2200/2900 to an Arcam DV88Plus!

I'll be watching this thread with interest!

I have a 32" 100Hz TV and a cheap LG player at the moment. I'm replacing it as it has problems with a few recent disks.
I've just ordered a Pioneer 565A, so I will let you know my thoughts when I get it. Ordered it from Avland for £199, multiregion - but guess what have just received an email to say they have no stock at the moment :(

It's arrived :) I've only had the chance to put a DVD in to make sure it works so far. I shall be checking it out in detail over the weekend. I've only just realised that it can play -RW VR discs that are created by some DVD recorders. That's a definite plus point.

I bought this player yesterday, too.

Managed to get hold of it for £200 Multiregion from Sevenoaks. Only had a day with it but am hugely impressed so far (especially the sound quality).

I'll post a more 'In Depth' review of it when I've had it a while longer.

My 32" Panasonic TV has inbuilt DD5.1 and DTS - this can never be as good as a proper AV amp, but I have noticed a great improvement in sound with the 565. Before, when using my old LG player I couldn't listen to DTS soundtracks for more than 20 minutes as it was very harsh and tiring - now I've listened to DTS on all the discs I've played so far - stunning :)
The picture quality is superb too. It's only on buying this player that I've realised that most of my collection is old TV comdies and old films - so I've ordered a superbit disc to check it out. I borrowed Terminator 3 off my mate and was very pleased with the picture and sound.
I'm so pleased I bought this player.

    hello,
I recently purchased a Pioneer DVR-3100 and I am puzzled by the obvious "banding" (you know when you can actually count the different degrees of shading) while playback of commercial discs.

As Pioneers are supposed to produce quality pictures I was wondering if you have yourself noticed any "banding" in the picture (it's more obvious on darker scenes)? Other than that the quality is very good but this problem is obvious depending on content (watch the very dark lit movie The Others and you'll get my point).

    happy new year!
