How much have you spent on your Home Cinema setup? I.e. not everything you have ever spent on upgrading your home cinema over the years, but how much is your current home cinema is worth?

Quite a lot, but if we're talking RRP instead of what I actually paid then it would probably jump up nearly 50% again.

I'm happy that the amount I spent is the range that most others spent too. At least I feel as if I'm not the only mad one! :D

Tell me about it - I just buy so many considering each one doesn't cost that much. If I had to add them all up though...

Pretty scary when I think that my amp, DVD and PJ alone equate to a nice deposit on a house. I must be mad.

    Time for a new hobby?!?!?

I was going to click on the £2500 - £5000 option...but thought I had best add up just to make sure.

I can't believe that I am actually quite a way into the next price bracket

Another one i'd be interested in -
    income : sytem price ratio.

Quite often I sit back and think "why am I doing this? why did I buy that knowing I would be hard up approaching next pay day???"

Does anybody else experience this? Or have I developed a serious problem?

To be honest, I am considering selling all of my AV gear and taking a break from the whole chase your tail lark. At the end of the day we seem to be spending thousands to watch the odd movie and play the odd game. Do people who have a simple TV enjoy a film anyless? Would not have thought so.

    Pete.

    Pete,

If you do this, and you're left with a tele and a dvd player, this is when you'll realise how much you miss your old setup. If you can afford to, I would keep it! I have my setup in my bedroom, but often watch other tvs i.e. Parents bog standard tele, girlfriends bog standard tele, and I find it hateful! Whenever theres a decent film on, I cant help but think how awful it looks and sounds! Cant wait till I get my own place and have the quality all the time!

Another thing, think of the money you'd lose

Interesting thought Pete, with hindsight I almost wish I'd spent the spare cash I've spent on AV kit (aside from the TV) on a really nice stereo system. You're welcome to swing by mine to remind yourself of a more average and cost effective system if you like! :)

Yeah you'll certainly miss it if you get rid!

I find myself enjoying films much more lately after all the upgrades... My system's perfect now for my needs (and my income!!) and it sounds great. It's nice to sit infront of a film with nice picture and sound quality and just become engrossed. Couldn't watch many films infront of a 14" portable :(

    Pete,

As you know I went through a similar thing myself recently and ripped everything out and sold it all.

Was the same reasons you quoted really, spent loads of money (not as much as you mind!!) and for a couple of films a week.

The one thing I noticed though was that as soon as I had gotten rid of everything I wanted it all back!!

I have decided that there WAS too much money tied up in it all and have managed to get myself what I consider a fairly decent setup for a much more reasonable price. This way I will not constantly be thinking what I could have done with the money and can hopefully enjoy what I have for what is is!

Hopefully this time when I get a bout og the 'guilts' I wont be tempted to sell it on........................

Spent too much thinking about it, but better than spending it all on ciggies and beer :)

And never spent that much I've made myself skint or gone without anything else.

Does anyone else feel guilty about how much they've spent, compared to the value of gifts for their significant other? Even thought the SO says they don't mind, and doesn't give us any ideas about what they'd like so its difficult to treat them?

Well, I added up my current kit and it came to under 5k.

That completely disregards the fact that since I started with this lark I've had (in my main set-up):

    2 Integrated AV Receivers
    1 Integrated AV Amp
    2 Processors
    4 power amps
    4 sets of main speakers
    4 sets of surround speakers
    4 centre speakers
    2 subwoofers
    8 DVD Players
    2 Projectors
    3 TVs

    :suicide:

Yes its alot of money, but since my last splurge (PJ, Amp, DVD Player and Speaker package in quick succession) I have noticed 2 things:

    1. My other half actually enjoys watching movies:thumbsup:
    2. There seem to be a lot more people in my lounge of an evening,
great socially, not so good for the wine rack/beer fridge.

I am working abroad at present, nice apartment, cheesy silver sony all in one system and ordinary 4:3 TV, I have to sit on the coffee table to watch a widescreen movie! Don't regret the money I've spent one bit.

My wife loves it too but would kill if she knew what it cost - she thinks you get this stuff on offer at Aldi. It all started with a too good to miss speaker deal and before I knew it ... AMP, DVD, TV cables etc etc etc - but I have no guilt for doing it but no money either.

    My neighbour hates it .....

:D Well, that's why I have stuck by Rotel ... the all black cases make it difficult to identify newcomers (the missus didn't even know we had two power amps)*

    * soon to be three (am I testing my luck?)

The only problem I have now is that I spend all my time on here looking at new products & improving my system when maybe I should be just working my way through the 60 odd sealed DVD movies I have waiting to watch yet :rotfl: :rotfl:

But I know what some of you mean though. I go round my parents house once a week & they have this little 20 inch Hitachi with imaginary surround sound :nono: :nono: & I cannot stand watching it. Then a few weeks ago their vcr packed up I tried & tried to ralk them into getting a PVR but no they had to get another vcr for £80 :suicide: I ask you????

    Regards

    Gary

Indeed - just my DVDSoon account summary shows I spent £1k with them last year and my collection is far smaller that most peoples due to my extensive DivX collection :p
