Trying to work out if my house is just a power hungry monster, or pretty standard for us AV loving kWh junkies!

We used 6771 kWh in one calendar year November 2016 - October 2017. So 130 kWh per week, or 18.6 kWh per day. Looking back over the last few weeks, we seem to average more like 120 kWh per week, or 17 kWh per day.

This is on a 6 bed house, twin electric ovens, an induction hob, a Spa (in the summer) and a tone of AV.

What do you get though in your house?

Lets use kWh as tariffs will be different.

Taking from my bill which is real reads we use 10 kWh per day on average / 3660 pa. Washing machine, dishwasher (both of which hardly use anything), tumble dryer, twin oven, microwave, induction hob, plasma/projector av system, house full of sonos and dots, lights (obvs), gaming PC with a few screens, lawnmower, phone charging. Family of six.

So roughly 8.5kwh per day. Thats with the Wife at home all day looking after a little one, so plenty of lights on and tv always on.

    Thats a 3 bed semi.

Looking at a few websites, it seems the UK average is between 3000-6000 kWh. So we are just over the very top end, which is what I had feared...

Presumably you are average for a six-bed house with a spa? :)

32kW a day :hiya: But this includes charging our Nissan Leaf, and I don't have the figures to hand to subtract that. But last time we did a comparison, pre-Leaf we were still one of the highest users, along with @Mr Incredible IIRC. I blame the Plasma...

Wow - mine is much higher than everyone else's: from 624kwh in May to 904kwh in October!

Think I might need to get that investigated.

We have an daily average of 12.1 kWh. 4447 kWh in the last year. Half with 4 and now 5 of us in the house. It's a good time to be an electric provider as the amount of stuff that's plugged in either playing or charging is shocking.

If the kids all left home together, the usage would go down so much the electric company would think we were doing something dodgy with the meter.

Hang on, 32kWh x 31 days is 992 kWh, so I win  or lose

More accurately in October we used 1126.25kWh :)

Just checked the BG app too. We average about 250kwh a month so only about 8.5kwh per day. It is a 5 bed house but there are only 3 of us living in it and we don't have any electric showers and don't use the tumble dryer.

3087 for Jan-Sep - don't have updated figures beyond that but electricity usage probably dropped off a little since then.

Based on this thread I am going to worry less about leaving the odd light on [IMG]

I forgot to mention three NAS devices as well for media.

Ours was around 8-9 (on average), but that's probably around 30 now. It'd be closer to 40 if the wife didn't charge the car at work. We'll know more once our next bill comes in

    2016 was a horrifying 9193 KW

2017 is quite a bit lower (circa 30%) and forecasted at 6393

Massive drop in April this year when I got a smart meter and realised the electric underfloor heating in 4 rooms was coming on during the night so I cut it right back to go off at 9pm and not come on until 6am.

    April 2016 was 703KWH and April 2917 was 463

Was very pleased that we got a smart meter

We chopped about 25%? off our usage when we got an electricity monitor and did some tuning.

Are solar panels sufficient enough to get you a minus usage then?

Only if you have low usage.
Mine have generated 5-6 kWh per day over the last two days. So would make money for you if a lower user like Indiana or Cocky.
But only during the day. Even with our daft usage we regularly export small amounts. So you could be cost free if your 24hr usage is compensated by whatever your feedback tariff is.

In the same period as the OP, we used 8972 kWh in one calendar year November 2016 - October 2017. That works out at 172 kWh per week, or 24.6 kWh per day.

We have oil heating and a gas hob, everything else runs of electric. House is approx 3000 ft2.
