Planning to have an Xbox 360 night this week featuring two system-linked Xbox 360s. But this made me wonder if there might be any frequency problems using 8 wireless joysticks in the same room...

Anyone know Microsoft's official take on this situation?

    Thanks

I think they automatically choose an un-used channel (theres more than 4) but not 100%

Otherwise system link would be a bit pointless!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you could have up to about 50 pads in the same environment, so you can have LAN parties etc.

The wireless pad is associated with the last console you used it on. If you take your controller to a mate's house for example, you have to press the connect button on the controller and the other console to get it to register.

The theoretical limit is definitely up around the 50 mark, so no problems with LAN parties. Not that 50 would be ideal, there may be some interference, but say four 360s each with 4 controllers should work no probs.

ok then say if you went to a little link up party, 2 360's 8 controllers... do you have to identify 4 to one xbox and 4 to another, this means you would have to do them 1 by one so that the xboxs dont get confused. You couldnt all be pressing the little button at the same time it would screw itself! probably overheat, 8 red lights on the double rings of doom!

There will be no problem if you program four controllers to one 360, and program 4 to the other. The 360 wont recognise a controller if you havnt pressed connect on both. so press connect on the 360 you want to assign the first 4 to, then press connect on the 360 to assign the other four. The connect button is underneath the portable memory port on the console. An on the controller it is at the top

right but the xbox doesnt care where they are as long as both buttons are pressed, if you have double everything you would have to do 1 at a time
    pain in the ass

Yep you would, all you would have to do was

Press the connect button on xbox 1
Press the connect buttons on the 4 controllers for that box
Press the connect button on xbox 2
Press the connect buttons on the 4 controllers for that box

    Would take about 20 seconds

As far as I understand the PS3 is looking to use Bluetooth for thier controllers so that would mean limited by address space and/or frequency interferance (over 100 I am pretty sure) but the stack in each console will only talk to 7 max........as far as I understand on the unconfirmed and constantly changing specs:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
