    Happy new year all.

Have got an lcd tv on order with option to extend warranty to 5 years for just under £300. Not sure whether to bother but judgement may be coloured by experience with my Sony crt set. Tube went shortly after warranty expired. Sony agreed to pay for repair as a gesture of goodwill but leaves me nervous. Trying to get a feel for how many of you extend your warranties or do you just keep your fingers crossed? :)

If it works for the first year, it will probably work until the backlight dies. For £300, it's not worth it.

I refuse to pay for an extended warranty on anything however I was also wary of buying an LCD and only having a years warranty on it - thankfully Sharp were doing a three year warranty on their sets (via a mail in offer) and so that resolved that issue.

My realistic viewpoint is that if it lasts a year then it's prolly going to last three and if I pay for a three year warranty then I'm likely to have upgraded by the time the warranty expires.
