    This is what I did:

    1 for L&R
    1 for Surrounds
    1 for Centre and Sub

That's three pairs using my maths.....

So normal stereo outputs can be ignored?

( What I am trying to get at is that most DVD players have stereo outputs and 5.1 outputs. Do I need to connect the stereo outputs to use the DVD players onbaord DAC when I am playing a CD? Or do those also appear on the 5.1 outputs...as, I guess, front left right????)

    IXOS 175AV 6 RCA to 6 RCA

Stereo output will just use the Front L & R of these connections while 5.1 will use all. (A neat cabling solutions as well) I use 2 one that supplies 5.1 in for my SACD player & 1 that supplies 5.1 in for my DVD-A.

No need to connect up the seperate stereo output.

I don't know if different players are different
If I use my DVD to play a CD then I need the sterio connections, otherwise I can only get the digital signal into my receiver.
But saying that, it might just be that I didn't set the receiver to 'Ext In' . Will have to try at some time.

    Mark.

    Yep

Just choose the multi channel input on your amp you have connected from your DVD & it will play back the front L & R channels from that 6 RCA connection for your 2 channel playback (whether 2 channel DVD-A or regular CD)

Thanks! That saves two cables then. I like that IXOS 6 way. Neat solution!
