Right, quite a few people on here seem to be getting new LCDs at the moment, so I though it would be a good idea to gauge screen quality by seeing how many dead pixels your display has.

I've had my LCD for over a week now, and only when I started playing with my newly purchased Digital Video Essentials DVD, and displayed test screens of blue, green and red did I notice any.

How about providing the following information:

    Screen make/model
Resolution (gives the total no of pixels)
    No. of dead pixels
    Are they set on/off
    Location e.g. top/bottom/side/centre of screen
Plus any other info e.g. all clustered together/on same line etc.

    And finally, do you care?

    Right, to start:

    Screen: Sharp LC-32GA4E
    Resolution: 1366x768
    No of dead pixels: 4
    On/off: All off (black)
Location: 1 bottom left, 1 top left, 2 along right side, none in the central viewing area

Seen as I never saw them until I intentionally started looking, can't say I care. I won't be spending too long looking at completely red/white/whatever pictures.

I've seen lots of comments about dead pixels. I personally haven't noticed any on my Tosh 32WL48 (1366x768) but I deliberately haven't gone to within 30cm of the screen to try and find them, because if I do, then I'll always know they're there. From a distance of 2m the picture looks perfect in this respect and I'm happy to keep it this way (even if I might be deluding myself!)

only had the screen for a few hours but

    LC-45GD1E
    1920x1080
    not seen any dead yet

    EDIT::: UPDATE:::

just ran through red/green/blue and white screens to check for dead/stuck pixels and I have

    0...ZERO...ZIP....NADA..... NONE at all.

given the vast number of them I'm well impressed.

    Screen make/model : Loewe Xelos SL 32
    Resolution : 1366x768
No. of dead pixels None

I've had it 2 months and certainly would have noticed any as I regularly dip into DVE test patterns.

I am the king of dead pixels, every TFT display i have ever bought has had at least one. I went through 8 laptops until I got to one without, although a month later and I got one right in the middle. My current laptop got a blue one 3 month in. My new Sony Ericson K700i has one at the bottom of the screen. Strangely enough they have all been blue

True but JL being the stars they are offered to replace it without question. A new one is on its way to me and the old one will be collected at the same time

    Cheers

Update for my Sharp 32GA4E- definitly have one pixel stuck to off (blue channel I think) in bottom left middle and I think I may have a green one stuck on in top left, but I only saw it fleetingly and havent seen it replicated since- may have been a transmission error, will have to wait till DVD turns up at the end of the week to check for sure.
Either way neither are in anyway obtrusive and do not ruin the pleasure I am gaining from this great set.

On my 32GA4E - no dead or stuck pixels that I have seen so far but I'm purposely not looking closely for them as I know they would annoy me. I think though that I would have noticed any by now.

I blame my wife. I was purposfully not looking for them, but my wife spotted one (although she had no idea of the dead pixel phenomena with LCDs) and told me about it.
To be honest it isnt at all intrusive.

I've been trying to find the acceptable number of dead pixels on a TV LCD and found a standard which computer manufactures work to.

International standard ISO 13406-2 (Class II).

I've not had chance to read it yet or even find a copy so I don’t known if applies to LCD TV’s.

Panasonic in their literature do mention ‘acceptable number of dead pixels’ by referring you to their web site, but I can’t find any reference on the uk site.

I think it should be made absolutely clear by the dealers and manufactures what is their policy is on dead pixels.

    Screen: DELL 2001FP
    Resolution: 1600x1200
    No of dead pixels: 3
    On/off: 2 off (black), 1 red
    Location: 3 top centre

Sent it back to DELL for replacement. New one has 0 dead pixels :)

DELL customer support told me that they (and other manufacturers) don't usually accept panels back unless they have 6 or more dead pixels. But I had a bit of leverage as I purchase lots of DELL kit for work.

Sony dont accept LCD XBlack displays as faulty unless they have more than 16 dead pixels - thankfully mine has none and JL have just called me today and asked me when i want my new Viera 32 delivered - woohoo!
