I've just bought my self an athlon 64 3000 and appropriate 939 board today for my new HTPC build.
Just wondering how loud the stock heat sink and fan is?

I know these proccessors run cool (certainly cooler than my socket 775 P4) but I want to know whether I need something like a Zalman 7000 before I start building the rest of my HTPC.

It depends on what else you have got. It's not loud if you have the usual but if the rest of your kit is quiet then you will notice it.

I've not tried my stock cooler although I doubt it is the quietist. You could probably replace the fan easily enough though which would reduce noise. I'd personally recommend getting a better hsf anyway, you'd be suprised at the difference it makes.

I've just ordered one of the Zalman 7000 coolers. Just hope it fits in my Silverstone LC03 case when it arrives.
