Hi All

How are you? How is everything? Good or bad please post let's try to get some positivity going and if you in a position help others if they need a little help during these times.

I run my own company and I'm been fighting tooth and nail to keep all my staff in work including me and I noticed my anxiety levels have gone up alot and I never had this ever. Some people have not been lucky and this can create alot of stress and play mind games.

Me and my partner set up a men's mental health group just last year in Sheffield. (I dont like the word charity because it can be taken so many different ways). People can come and talk about things that are happening in life and it had me thinking.

Over the last few weeks the discussion have been about "people are scared to ask for help" or society makes it hard to say I just need to talk to some one".

Well this is a great community and there alot of genuine lovely people who are always to help.

You just never know if this will ever be you.

I thought id set up a thread and see if anyone just needed to chat, there is no shame in asking for help.

I hope everyone is keeping well and safe.

I suffer from social anxiety and depression and honestly I have loved lockdown, I have never felt so relaxed within myself.

I manage a Charity shop and since the announcement that shops could re open June 1st my anxiety and stress has come back thinking about it. I have to get 2 buses and 4 trains on my round trip to work (Live in London), to then work in a tiny shop where you cannot social distance, going through peoples dirty clothes.

I don't think I can do it, but need the money. Am hoping I can find a job before then but not much about.

Hi.

I hope your well, thankyou for posting.

What do you think is triggering the anxiety.? The thought of going to work or more uncertainty over the covid19 or is it actually both.

I work in construction and the sites are very busy. I make sure my lads wear goggles and masks.

Is this something you can do, I wouldn't say you boss can force you to return if they have not put things in place.

Hi

It's all the public transport and the fact the shop is so small you cannot social distance, it's a very small charity shop, it won't be able to be controlled. I live with someone who is in the high risk category as well. All that I am very anxious about.

I have to wait and see what the company say, and then make a decision, but either way I am either putting myself and people around me at risk or I have no money.

But a lot can change in a few weeks as well, so taking it one day at a time but it's hard not to think about it.

I hope you take this the right way , and I am not trying to detract from this thread in any way , there is quite a big thread here that people have found useful

I assume you can't pedal bike to work.?

You cannot be forced back to work especially if live with someone who is high risk.

Until the company contact you then don't worry about it.
Tell the company how you feel and record it. Set up a 2 mtr distance from the till in the shop.
Write it down and put your thoughts on paper and make a list of stuff you want in place.

Do you have masks and Google that you can wear ?

You just never know if this will ever be you.

and that is one of the big things about this type of thing , people won't admit to it , I thought I would be the last person to succumb to it , if I am honest then I have been suffering for years , it took a spell in hospital with a very bad case of pneumonia to tip me over the edge so to speak and seek help , I am improving but still have bad days , one massive thing I have done is stop drinking after 30 years solid , I'm not going to preach but its well worth considering doing if you have depression for lots of reasons ..........

and , if anyone doesn't want to post on thread then please PM me , I'll always listen and try to help if I can , be good and stay safe ......

That took alot of courage to say that, you should be proud.

The effort it must have took to stop drinking, I assume it was 1 day at a time at the start and then the days fly by.

First off , congrats to the OP for this thread as much needed .

I can not say I'm not worried even though I have worked through the lockdown at my site . Whilst many may say you lucky sod as others are worse off than you . All I can say is that in 30+ years I've not experienced so much tension and doubt in the workplace . It's been a strain and then some to even attempt to react and make a safe working environment for my shift . Hardest seven weeks I've ever experienced in my working life .

Not helped that the wife , rather than furloughed was instead made redundant . So a stressed out worker and a partner made redundant does not make for a great home environment.

It's a bugger n then some .

Without sounding glib it went very easy , I guess I had a moment of clarity 🤣 , I want to run something past you , is it ok if I PM you shortly ? 👍

May I ask what is it you do for work.?

I understand what your saying, I think a big problem is we don't certain things for so many years its becomes second nature. Now we are ask to keep the distance etc.

Its hard because its not only you that these rules rely on its the effort of everybody.

I was on site today and there was 15 brick layers all next to each other ... it was there 1st day on the job.
I told them straight, I wanna go home to my wife and kids and not be sending one of them to hospital because you lot don't care.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife job, but may I say from a outsider point of view. I understand it creates a stressful home life but ita neither of your fault. You both look after each other so turn it in to a positive and tell your wife you know what its ok we sort this.

That is amazing. Well done.

How long has it been now.?

Doesn't sound glib, its take a person with what you been through to speak about it and just maybe there will be someone else who will listen.

October last year , I had been feeling awful for a while , had the most unreal sweats , laughed it off as the male menopause !! , it got to the point where I had to go to the doctor's , she took my blood oxygen and it was 86% , and she got me straight to hospital , I was in for 8 days with a chest drain , tried to go back to work after a month and failed miserably , went back on the sick and was off for nearly 6 months , finally got back to work and then got furloughed after a week lol , now one been told I'm high risk and will be of until the end of June .....

And finally if anyone still thinks covid is not serious the photo shows the results of pneumonia which is serious but less severe .....

I am in the food labelling industry , shrink printed film to be more precise . Been a hard slog to stay on track with demand and to keep shift in a safe working environment. Working shifts I am a focal point on our out of hours working that at times I have not had any guidance how to procced to very revelent questions and fears from my operators . I feel I am out of my depth at times and left hung out to dry and use my best judgement that I feel is not up to task at this time .

Worst for the wife as she is a doer and hates to be idle as gives her to much time to think . She/We between us are actively searching for any type of work for her . Worst possible time though to do so . Jobs are out there but so many going for them.

I'm shielding (didn't expect a letter but am diabetic and overweight, i guess that's why) working from home but i'm finding it mentally a real struggle. The anxiety i had years ago has returned and some days are really tough. I desperately miss my simple routine of going out to work, the football, socialising every other weekend. Struggling to see much light at the moment, i don't help myself by reading and watching the news which is a real downer.

First off big ups for yourself for posting on this thread as I can feel from your post the struggle you are in . As a fellow member that has struggled with mental healh issues in the past this big change in our lives is a burdon that is hard to cope with alone . Sometimes just airing ones fears on a forum is a start as talking to strangers is an outlet . You are not alone mate and if you feel like a chat then do so .

I totally understand the fear, as I'm in the same boat as you just in construction.

Alot of the time its purely commonsense, if your not will to it and feel unsafe then you can't expect someone else to do it.

I been out and bought all my staff mask, goggles, hand wash for home and vehicles.

I encourage then to constantly clean there hands even during mid work. The rest is 2mtr distance, you just have to keep on top of it and you done right by everyone.

Thank you for sharing that.

Wow you been through some hard health times, but now your on the other side and feeling stronger right?

Take a positive that the company you went to furlough you, thats a good positive thing, gives you more time to sort things out.

Hi, I like to echo what raduv1 said, thankyou for posting your message. Means alot not only to me but to others.

Your message is a one of the reason I wanted to start this thread. I hope just typing it out and expressing yourself gives you shall we say the first step that your speaking about it.

No one will judge anyone, we just are not going to do that here.

I to am overweight and I just bought a exercise bike about 3 weeks ago. I questioned my own anxiety and wondered if it was down to not been active, not getting my heart pumping etc.

So I thought you know what exercise bike I'm buying it, well the bike arrived and I hopped... Jesus it was hard because your constantly pedeling. I wasn't even able to do a mile because everything was aching and burning, felt so unfit. I just wanted to give up tbh.

I said to my self, things are gonna change and this is gonna happen so I set my self goals. 1 mile in morning and 1 mile when I feel anxiety starts through the day.

4 days into in i found I had something new in my new routine, my heart anxiety wasn't banging out my mouth as much. This has now prompted me to start working out my meals, reading and understanding what I should and shouldn't eat. I feel a who lot better.

Do you have a excersie bike? Is it something you could do maybe to try it?

Who do you support BTW? Sheffield United fan here ").

Try and cut down on the reading and watching the news, try and do it every other day. I totally understand because again I was the same.. but its the same everyday - doom and gloom.

Take care
