For those that don't know my 4200 wasn't bad but it had a number of imperfections, body damage and some rust

I was recommended a company in Portsmouth VRC Coachworks soI took it down

This is the result, I'm blown away by the quality of the work which included the badly kerbed wheels

If you want paintwork doing it's well worth the trip to Portsmouth, Phill is a professional with a keen eye for detail, he only works one way, it's right or it doesn't get done.

He doesn't fill rust so the section round the rear lights was cut out as was the bottom of the rear arches, passenger door had damage and the aerial hole was a mess so that's gone completely

it was a 500 mile round trip for me and I'd do it again without hesitation if I needed anything else painting

    excuse my rusty nuts :D

Looks absolutely fantastic. You are obviously very pleased and so you should be. Now be very careful washing it. You don't want to get swirl marks in that lovely paint job.

Nice. Probably worth putting a photo in the motoring forum, if you haven't already.

Can appreciate your choice, but thats one of the ugliest cars ive ever seen, looks like a Toyota.
My opinion though, long as you like it is what matters

It didn't look that much different before the respray , silver wheels , same colour but it'd had a few smart repairs with varying shades of silver , parking dings and some corrosion , by the time all the small bits were added up it was 70% of the car that needed work so I thought it was worth it.

Luckily we're all different when it comes to cars or how would they sell all those euro boxes , I've never owned a new or nearly new car in my life.

I'd sooner have a 10 year old V8 than convince myself that £250 a month on a 60mpg car to drive to the shops twice a week is good value for my money.

A new euro box will eat money, this will still be worth what I have in it in 10 years while a 15k focus will be worth £350

Yes maybe but I wasnt talking about price, because youve assumed there that I own a "euro car" of some sort, or at least used it in your comparison. You could have gone the other way, ferarri fir example, why compare a maseratti to a focus? And I dont think it will be worth "the same" with milage amd wear and tear.

I didnt mention value for money or mpg either, I based my opinion purely on the images, and I hate it, imho it looks the mr2 does to me, cheap and ugly.
But I dont have to like itas I dont have to drive it, justdont drive past me and make me look at it please lol.

And btw im poor I cant afford a car, so laugh away at me, its just my opinion mate

I'm not laughing at you, I've been skint many times and I respect your opinion but I don't think it could be described as ugly , in any case if you're into cars at all the noise it makes would win you over :D

    I don't.

You have come on here to share a picture of something you have worked hard to buy and bring up to your standards. It is something you are proud of and rather than just ignore your thread, he decided to come on and post things like "one of the ugliest cars ive ever seen" and "I hate it, imho it looks the mr2 does to me, cheap and ugly".

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but the way his posts are worded deserves absolutely no respect whatsoever.

    I agree with Sandman.

The old "if you have nothing nice to say" line springs to mind.

It would be like someone posting a picture of their wedding and another member decides to announce that they think the bride is an ugly cow.

I agree with Dr Phil and Sandman. I was going to say something earlier, but it has been more eloquently put by both Sandman, and DrP.

It's a V8 Italian Supercar, what's not to love. I done some painting for a chap years ago who had one of these, it's gorgeous and the sound is wonderful. Enjoy

I think the problem arose with the thread title.

I must admit, I read it and it immediately made me want to hurt people. That happens a lot though:laugh:

Friend of mine's father, many a moon ago, had a Maserati Biturbo, it was in good condition but was really a piece of crap in so many ways.

......... yet I did and still want one.

Cracking car wack. Ignore the naysayers and enjoy. The sound of that V8 emptying your wallet with every mile is a joy many will never understand.

Looks nothing like an MR2. An older model Celica or Supra maybe ;)

I jest. Congrats on the car, it looks lovely. If it makes you happy that's all that matters. If we all liked the same thing the world would be a boring place!

    Nice car.

    I'm reminded of a friend's experience.

He was left a fair amount by his grandmother. He didn't need the money so he and his missus decided to buy an aston martin ( I think it was a a DB8).

He brought it into work on day and got special permission to use one of only three car spaces from the boss. Everyone wanted to see his car and he wanted to show it off...good natured bunch we were.

Upstairs from us was a corporate recruitment agency which seemed to be entirely made up of 25 year old men in designer suits trying to act important ( real Patrick Bateman types).

I'm downstairs smoking in the car park/loading bay as are a couple of suits from upstairs. The Aston is sat there getting lots of appreciative looks. There is a regular procession of people walking down to admire it.

Just then the owner comes down says hello to me and then goes over to the car. As he gets close to it one of the suits pipes up.

"Here mate be careful around the car"

My mate just looks at the suit , pulls the keyfob from his pocket and holds it up , pushes the button to unlock the car ( big beep and hazard lights flash). Looks at me and we both try not to laugh. Then he drives off.

Suit had gone beetroot. Classic it was.

More like the earlier version - the Celica Supra. I had one in red just like that and it does have a lot of similarities.
