Personally I'd like the middle of the screen just above eye level - but then there's the fire-place. And that's where it would look best when off. But is it too high for viewing?

I realise everyone will have a different opinion. I can't try a picture above the fire, as I haven't moved into the house yet.

So my question is: what is the highest you'd be happy to have a 42" screen (viewing from 12 feet)? (the top of my fire-place is 135cm = 4'5" above the ground).

    Thanks for all opinions

I should really add an apology for how repetitive this question must seem. I'm currently reading through search results, but would still like opinions :)

I wouldn't risk placing a plasma over the fire in the first place and you'll end up with a sore neck after a week! Most tellys are only about 30" from the floor to the middle of the screen

Mine's above the fireplace - quite high. A bit strange for the first couple of hours, but now I really love it. Very aesthetically pleasing and that's the only place it could realistically go!

The fire doesn't pose any risk to the plasma (as long as there is mantle).

You don't end up with a sore neck

I had a look at your set-up mike - took me a while to find it. Couldn't do me a favour and measure the height of your mantle-piece could you? :)

Ours is above the fireplace, viewed from about 5m away - no probelm with neck ache. Now seems the natural place to watch, very comfortable as you sit back on a sofa.

Sadi it before, best thing to do is to make a life size paper shape* of your screen and lightly tack it in the proposed position and then sit and look at it for a while on and off. You'll soon find out if it's not right for you.

    * Stick an interesting pic on it ffor added fun....
