Can anyone give me some advice on where to go next with my system? I have an idea but would like peoples opinions. This is what I’ve got at the moment:

    Sony MDS JB930 Minidisc Deck
    Marantz PM66SE Integrated Amp
    Marantz CD67MKII OSE CD Player
    Videologic DAB Tuner
    Yamaha 492 (3 channel pro logic processor/amp)
    Sony EP9ES Dolby Digital Processor
    Pioneer 535 DVD Player

    This lot is connected to:

    2 x B&W 601 S2 Front speaker
    1 x B&W CC6 Centre speaker
2 x Wharfdale Modus surround speakers

I recently bought the Yamaha & Sony’s to add cinema to my system. The Sony processor is a seriously cool piece of kit and I like it a lot. I’m not so keen on the Yamaha which I think has seen it’s best days as it’s kicking out a lot of hiss no matter how I configure it. What I was thinking was to get rid of the Marantz & Yamaha amps and replace them with power amps and use the Sony processor as a preamp and plug all my kit into the Sony processor. What I’m not sure of is how well stereo music will sound with this setup. Is the DAC in the Sony as good as all the DAC’s in my radio, cd & minidisc deck? I know the Sony processor is an ES range piece of kit and my other kit is more like QS range stuff but the other kit is newer than the Sony processor. Anybody’s thoughts/advice would be welcome.

    Thanks

    Ben

I wouldn't worry about the DACs in the Sony E9. Someone had Arcam 8P power amps for £100 at here yesterday so maybe look those up. A multi-channel Rotel amp would be yer best bet.

    HTH,
    Mike.

I'll have a Rotel 985 mk2 power connected to the 9es by the middle of next week, i'll let you know how I get on.

I'm very excited about it all, not too keen on the wait though.

    Mike,

Do you mean the DAC in the Sony is good then?

    Jon,

I look forward to your update!

    Cheers

I wouldn't doubt it for a second. Based on no personal experience but on so many flattering reports online and elsewhere alongside much Sony ownership over the years ;)

    Mike.
