Had 3 goes - 527, 564 and 520 (answering all 3 questions correctly each time).

I've always been a quick reader, a driving awareness test at work that was supposed to take 3 hours took me 40 minutes.

I was 2% slower than the national average - Bit then it's not a competition is it.
AND - I did try to replicate my normal steady reading spead though the temptation was to speed read it.

When I'm into a book I enjoy I do seem to skate along a lot faster.

    Update

Just had a second go and was 51% faster than the national average.

I'm think I'm probably a slow reader (I've never measured WPM). I prefer to savour the words, to sometimes stop reading, sit back and think about what I've read. I would rather get the most out of a few good texts than skim over the surface of a lot.

389 and all three questions right. But I got an excerpt from War of the Worlds which I have read so many times I could have got the 3 questions correct without reading it.

304 and answered 2 out of the three questions although I logically guessed them as I didn't remember a single word I read! :(
War of the Worlds wasn't it?

Have to admit that I've never read a book, just can't get on with them although it is on my Bucket List ;)
Glad I'm above the national average but probably doesn't count if it went straight in and then out again!

I think I'm fairly quick (haven't done the test yet) - and I learnt a technique of derren browns trick or treat where this guy how to speed read for a whole week before going into a tough pub quizz...

I used the technique prior to an interview doing MS server support - largely on subjects I hadn't done before and the others I jhadn't done for over a year... I read a few MS server admin books (~1k pages each) in a few days and while I wasn't able to receit it word for word - I was able to anwser all the questions asked (to varying degrees)...tho, you don't store the info in your brain that long...just a few days...

And I was pretty happy with my 22% faster! Presume the national average includes illiterate people?

168 second try and if it was not for knowing the story already I'd of had no chance at the questions.
But then I don't read as I cannot focus. Even reading that test, I find I am thinking of other things whilst reading and the questions are just a guess.

Laughs, don't worry, as bad as me then.
My trouble is I don't read story books, I lack focus. I read "facts" and I enjoy it, but only if I'm interesting in what I'm reading. (new graphics card perhaps)
But a story, I know I'm thinking of something else, as I'm reading it and then I think about thinking to read it.
    weird huh!

Agreed... I dont read books/stories.... If you all want a laugh... I have been reading Peter Kay's "Sound of Laughter" since January 2012... I am still only on page 219... That is not every day and when I do it is about 3-4mins at a time.... But still bloody shocking.

I don't know TBH . Is this a contest thread ? I read a couple of of books a week on Average now that I have the Kindle but have always been more interested taking in what I am reading than the speed I'm reading it at. But I can tell you while your congratulating yourselves on reading the fire exits procedures and escapes routes in a hotel at an above average rate we are the one's that use you as carpets on our escape route out of the danger . Survival wins over intelligence as there is more of us to get the job done but you are a help at the beginning of our journey.

789 words a minute with two correct answers.

Second attempt 651 words a minute with three correct answers. Must be getting old.

7,667 words per minute with three correct answers. That's better.

    What speed do you read?

A page from Alice in Wonderland.
14,785 words per minute. Better. This is easy peasy.

Ooh, The Wizard of Oz! Easy.

You read 16,600 words per minute.
That makes you 6,540% faster than the national average.

Interestingly, I scored 474 first go when doing the test on a 47" TV (sitting about 6 feet away) and 792 when I redid the test on my laptop.
Its obvious it's easier to read text on the laptop, but I'd never have guessed at how much easier!
