One of the problems facing high def uptake is the format war.
Another is a complete ignorance that either format exists.
How about one side or the other insists that, whenever a company releases a film in high def as well as DVD, the TV ad (and other ads, for that matter) says "Also in HD DVD/Blu-Ray" (delete as applicable), at the end.
If, for example, HD DVD started doing this and the other didn't, it'd be a pretty major factor in boosting the format's public profile.
