Your opinion on spec and price invited.

All looks very nice until I get to the graphics card and I think "oh dear"

Sorry - should explain that I already have a Radeon 9700 Pro which I will swap with the card coming in this machine.
Just need a cheapo graphics card to put in the old machine.

I see, sounds very impressive then. Any more info on the ram involved?

I've asked for specifics and I'll edit this post with details shortly.
The salesman said that with 2 pieces you get something like hyperthreading so the ram works faster.

Ok - from my supplier:

Its standard pc400 DDR Memory which is Major/3rd, the particular brand does
vary. It is all good quality pieces. I can get branded memory for you but it
is considerably more.

I would be interested in one of these.

Is it in a HCPC casing? or is it just for the components to put in a HCPC case?

This isn't a HCPC so there's a cheapo case in the quote
1 off, Bijou ATX Tower Case 400W ATX Front USB & Audio
which I would put a quiet PSU in from QuietPC.com.

TBH you can't really argue with a price like that. My reasoning for asking is due to the fact it's a nice setup and it would be a shame to see it let down by crappy ram. If they can't quote a decent name (Kingston Hyper X, OCZ etc..) try asking them to supply it with just 256mb for a discount (lets you use the thing) and buy a gig elsewhere.

I've asked for details of the RAM brands and also a breakdown of the costs.
I could build this system myself except I completely failed to set up RAID 1 on my current machine so I'm giving up and getting my suppliers to do it. Mirroring the discs will provide me with the extra safety net incase a drive dies.

Guys will it be significantly quicker than my current P2.3gig?

In a word - yes.

Hey Griffbo - I see you're in Birmingham. So are my supplier - Xenex.co.uk.

I wouldn't give in that easily, I'm sure with a little help from us we can sort out a mirror raid;)

Never come across them before but looking at their prices they are very competitive (well on the items i checked anyway). Not far away so I may take a look one day.

I've asked for a price breakdown and they have improved the price:

Raid Mirror Configeration Labour £50.00 1 £50.00

512MB DDR400 PC3200 Ram £46.00 x2 £92.00

Bijou ATX Tower Case 400W ATX Front USB & Audio £19.99 x1 £19.99

Geforce 4 MX440 64MB DDR TV Out £28.00 x1 £28.00

Windows XP PRO £83.95 x1 £83.95

Asus K8v Deluxe Wifi SATA Raid £95.00 x1 £95.00

AMD K8 64-bit 3200Mhz Processor £190.00 x1 £190.00

Don't think prices are that great, checkout overclock

AMD Athlon64 3200 64bit £164.72 + vat
Asus K8V Deluxe Athlon 64 £84.58 + vat

Not all the same components on there and don't think they'll build you one though.

Cheers
Rich
