How does the PS3 handle a NAS drive?

Distinguished Member

I am thinking of getting a NAS drive as I need a new external drive anyway and I don't want to keep moving files from PC to PS3 via USB.

Will they working with the PS3 out of the box, i.e. no messing with settings etc.

How does the PS3 "view" the drive, does it treat it like an external USB drive, or "stream" like from a PC?

What are your opinions of NAS drives in general?

You need a NAS that is DLNA compliant. You can then stream stuff in the same way as from a PC. There is a forum page here that may be a good start point.

I have a Buffalo 2tb NAS. It's great and easy to use. My 10 year old daughter and EVEN my wife has mastered turning the PS3 on and finding a movie/tv prog to watch.
