I have seen Hummer's guide on how to upgrade but it is not incredibly detailed. Do you have to back up the old drive or what. Can someone give me a detailed guide?

Hummers page is pretty much it.
Take out the old drive and put in a brand new unformated hard drive, reconnect and power up the enter installers menu and do a Full system reset.
The ease of a SKY+ hard drive upgrade is done to the fact it uses a standard IDE HD which all PC's can use. You can not transfer any data from the original drive to the replacement so only upgrade when you have no recordings you wish to keep, the HD can then be used in a PC or kept and put back in SKY+ if you need a warranty call out.
