I've tried everything with my NTSC disks. 525p and 525i on input 2 component but the cimemamode option never appears in the setup menu. Any ideas?

    Hi Bluebaron,
the PureCinema modes apply to the Pioneer progressive scan converter but only for 525 line interlaced sources. Obviously if you feed in 525P there is nothing for PureCinema to do so the mode is not available.

I just tried the 4 possibilities (525i/p and 625i/p) and 525i is the only one to enable PureCinema options in SETUP.

When you think you are feeding in 525i, try pressing DISPLAY on the remote to confirm i not p.

    Thanks Matt,

Yeh, I checked that the player is putting out interlaced and the display shows 525i but no purecinema option. I'm using a Limit 9900SE so not sure if it's something to do with that. Also not sure if progressive from the player is better or worse than the 5002 card anyway.

I think the de-interlacer in the Pioneer works very well and would not consider a progressive DVD player or Iscan, etc. to be essential by any means.

    Matt,
a question that would help me select how to connect the Pio433MXE. I need to make sure that my Cable box signal gets de-interlaced by the Pio.

Does the internal de-interlacer work on any input (VGA, BNCs)?
Can you switch on/off the de-interlacer via remote?

You cannot switch of the de-iinterlacing of the display. Purecinema mode jsut changes the method of de-interlacing being used.

As far as I know the 5002 board doesn't have 2:2 recognition for PAL film source material. It does have 2:3 recognition (when in purecinemamode) for NTSC film source material. This means that if you just watch NTSC dvd's you might find the plasma does a good enough job. With PAL material it should be pretty easy to show the superiority of an off board de-interlacing solution (or an on board alternative card like the KeyDigital one)

    Thanks Gordon,

Any news on when you might be getting some of the KD cards or Pioneer dual tuner cards in? I'm considering playing around with SDI conversion next month.

Just leaving the house now to go to CES in Las Vegas. Will be speaking with Key Digital then to get final specs and release date for all the goodies. Also going to check some other stuff out too.

    Back in 7 days guys....
