Guys, I first bought my 360 on launch in the UK, today I just bought a seconf for the lounge and the new one bought today has an older date then the first one I bought both have a date build of Oct '05 .. It's now the end of March.. me not sure whats going on here .. My first 360 has been great no real problems odd lock up in the odd game but hardly nothing.. I have yet to test the new one bought today .. but me thinks it could be one that has been back to M$ to be repaired and then repackaged and shipped to retailers .. Anybody else have a similiar experience??? I mean if there was such a shortage after launch - why is it - In march 2006 I receive a new console with built in Oct '05 with a date stamp earlier than the first I bought ???

    Weird me not happy ...

They built loads - it might be one of the systems that has been sent back and had everything fixed/put in new organs perhaps/

    Because it was newly manufactured?

It's like the GAME 10 day returns, they can sell them as new as the contract of purchase was declined. Much in the same way here I'd say.

What do you mean by contract of purchase was declined... I thought I was getting a brand new untouched by another person 360 like I did on launch day .. I mean I wouldn't mind if I was advised that this one had been repaired.. I mean you wouldn't expect to buy a new car and only find out on the day you bought it it had already been owned by somebody else .. I must look into this as I work for a law firm..

There is no other answer but its a recon ... sold as new ...

Mine was bought in Feb, yet has an Oct date too. Works fine, and at the time I was very happy to just have one. Has had plenty of use since.

I guess as long as it looks (and smells? :p) new you can't really complain.

As long as your 360 works properly it shouldn't really matter. I wouldn't assume it's been reconditioned in any way as it's possible that there was an error with the date stamp, or there could be some other explanation. If you're really unhappy then call MS and ask them what's going on, and make a poit of telling them you're unhappy at the thought of having a reconditioned unit.

Mine was manufactured 26-11-2005 and bought on 15th Dec, it hasn't crashed/locked up even once.

well theres two ways to look at it MS can sell them for £280 because they can factor in redistribution of fix/repaored units (if this is what they do) or they can add £30 to the cost of 360's and trash any that are returned...

The launch day batch were all air freighted in if I recall, due to the shortage, with the restock coming in via ocean shipping. If this is so it could explain how it took so long for it to get from the factory to you.

Surely though if M$ are sending out reconditioned units to retailers as new units..this is not right??

It doesnt happen with clothing does it??!! (looks at 'freshly' delivered Calvins).

No company selling electrical goods will sell reconditioned goods in a new box and sell as new. If anything, your machine was in storage in some other country and waiting shipment, or the casing with the date was done before, and they were delayed on other parts of the machine to complete it.

In all i am still playing my orginal xbox at the moment and using my cousins 360 and seeing what other games are coming out, and waiting for maybe another 6 months or so for the problems to be sorted out.

MS held a load back in the original batch to account for replacing faulty units. Maybe some of those held back have now made it into circulation. I'd be surprised if any of the returns make it back onto the shelves - consumer electronics rarely get repaired these days, as the labour costs are prohibitively expensive.

It's not just MS, they all do it, including Dell, Apple, Sony, LG, Samsung etc. People buy refurbished stock day in day out without knowing it. Standard practice unfortunately.

This thread amuses me but I dont think you guys are doing it on purpose!

Right first of all, who actually said that this was a reconditioned unit? Its merely your 'worse fears.' Its more than likely to be a stock issue. As far as I know, reconditioned units are the ones that are sent back to 360 owners when the dreaded coffin is sent. Equally someone could have bought this and then taken it back as an unwanted present without it being used.

I cannot think for one minute MS would try and sell reconditioned units as new - for a start it would be illegal as they wouldnt be "new."

The beauty of it is that there is no way you can prove you are right & there is no way I can prove I am right...

    ...get my drift.
