I have been thinking about how other's arrange their dvd/game collection

I have 400+dvd's and 300+ games (counting box sets as 1)

I personally (at the moment) have my tv series box sets along the top,
    box set films faced forward,
    snapper cased films all together,
    amaray cased films all together,
special edition films with outer cases all together,

    pc games,
    xbox games,
    gamecube games,
    psp games,
and ps2 games in their own sections

    etc....

Not in alphbetical/genre order or anything like that

However I would like to rearrange my collections, and would like to know how you arrange your collections and get some idea's before I rearrange. As I think it may take me some time

I'll post a picture later of what they look like at the moment, then post a picture after they have been re arranged (a before and after affect sort of thing)

    Thanks

    tris

except from boxsets/tv shows etc etc mine are arranged by studio releases. fox are all together as are EIV etc. but i cheat some times and keep the releases together ie Terminator series and die hard are from different publisher's but they are together. im actually i have them in any arrangement i used to just chuck them in anywhere

Ive only got around 100 so its easy to manage. Mine are arranged into the "type of cinema" eg Hollywood, Anime and Hong Kong

1st section is Hollywood and British cinema
    2nd section is Japanese cinema
    3rd section is Anime
    4th section is Hong Kong
5th section is TV and TV series box sets

    Hope im making sense. :D

I have sorted them all alphabetically (basicly put all the a's together, b's together etc....)

Films in the main shelves and tv series/shows along the top. (done the same with my games)

I appologise for the quality of the pics, I got shakey hands today

First off the left hand bookcase (dvds)

    then the middle (dvds)

    Then the right (games)

    Then the whole lot

    onto next post....

EDIT: These bookcases are located in the bedroom as I dont like them in the front room, which is where my home cinema is (well home cinema, living area for a family of three otherhalf, 4 almost year old daughter and myself, my little pc area etc....)

i've got 666 at the moment, well technically 667 cos one came today, but just for the sake of having a cool number of dvd's i'm not counting it yet ;)

anyway, i have mine in 2 bookcases (who reads books anyway?), sorted alphabetically.TV boxsets are on top of the bookcases in no particular order, and a couple of movie sets, like the lament configuration, R1 nightmare on elm street collection and wicker man pine box are also on top of the bookcases cos they take up too much space on the shelves.

It's a bit of a nightmare when i get a new dvd because i might have to re-sort up to 10 shelves every time, but i do get some sort of masochistic pleasure out of it..

I currently have room for about 5 more dvd's until i have to start relegating the few books i do own to the bottom of a cupboard somewhere..

items i'm most proud of would be: Book Of The Dead (rare and cool looking), T2 Ultimate DVD18 (again rare and cool looking), R1 NOES box (rare and great!), Gone in 60 seconds ltd edition (cos i've never seen anyone else who owns it) and the Alien Quadrilogy (because it's the best damn movie boxset ever, with more extras than Gandhi ;))

I'm nearing 700 DVD's and I'm over 1100 CD's - and A-Z, for all of them, is the only way to go. Movies, TV shows - the whole kit and kaboodle is A-Z. I had toyed with going for genre type, but what's Shaun Of The Dead? Big Trouble In Little China? And how would you find anything when it comes to "studio type?"

Same with CD's. I used to, in my young and foolish days, list CD's by the number I had by each artist. But that became a nightmare as well, so it's A-Z all the way.

genre, alphabetical, age certification,tv boxsets separate from others

With my collection (1750 and counting) the answer to the question of how I arrange them?

    Very carefully.

Devilsprey 2004 (marc) Thanks for a serious comment for a change :)

However I couldnt arrange into all those different genre's etc.... that would take forever. As Toratora said: what's Shaun Of The Dead? Big Trouble In Little China? There are so many different films that can't really be put into a songle genre.

Marc: I know what you mean moving stuff about every time you get a new film, so you can keep all the letters together. I thought of this in advance, so if I get new films (although it might spoil the look a bit) the movies that I have facing the front I would turn to their side to fit in the extra films :). After that however I will have a slight space problem :D

Seth Gecko :1750  If I didnt buy so many games I guess Id have as many dvd's as that by now. Ive been collecting since 1999 too.

I imagine you would arrange them very carefully, I wouldn't have the space I dont think. I do have a goal of reaching 500+ dvd's by christmas, wether I'll do it or not I dont know.

I'll keep (or try to at least) this thread up to date with my dvd arrangeing, even when I do run out of space. I think I might have to end up moving my games elseware at some point, just to have a wall full of dvd's :D that would be great

I've been collecting a lot longer than 1999 :) My first player was a Toshiba unit which I had as an import from the USA, when DVD was launched - I remember that I bought about 5 disks to play, such as the first edition of The Exorcist :) This is why I have things like the Little Shop Of Horrors that was withdrawn :) I've just got as well - The Door in the Floor, Scrubs Season 1 and Dead Like Me S2 arrived as well :) Now just to view them :)

I won't mention the laserdisc, video or game collections either then - suffice to say with a Gamecube, Xbox, PC, PS2, PSP, DS, GBA - there's one or two titles ;)

Sadly inbetween jobs - but it's well paid shall we say.

Where do I keep most of it - well it's split between 2 rooms currently and I have a large (growing) pile by the TV/DVD etc.
