can i just use sat cable? and some sheilded phono's?
Yep, SAT cable might be a bit stiff but it can be used. Basically any 75 Ohm cable and some phono (RCA) connectors will do the trick.
Just make sure its double screened, foil and copper braid.
RG59/6 give great results and is very cheap, 50p a meter or so for RG59, and use metal screened plugs not the plastic ones, take care when soldering together and youll end up with some very nice capable cables.
would these be a better bet than a sat cable diy?
You pays your money you takes your choice.
Benefit of diy is that you can make the cables any desired length you want.
I actually use a Nikkai 10mtr S-Video lead for hooking up a $ky box and Xbox to my PJ with good results, so if you dont want to go to the bother of making some homebrew leads then give em a go, if theyre no good take em back!
guys can I get 75 ohm connectors from maplin at all? If not where could I get some from?
RCA no, they simply dont exist, I believe the Canares that Mark Grant uses on his cables come close, though you need special crimp tools to attach them to the cable.
Oh, OK. So any half decent phonos will be as good as any average cable I can buy from the likes of QED, Thor etc?
Thanks for the help
I have been looking for some cables myself and can't seem to find any advertised over 10 m. Is there a problem with doing longer runs.I need about 12 -15 m
Does the pic degrade over this length
One of the forum sponsors Tv Cables have a 15mtr cable, no idea what the quality will be like but for £15.99 worth a punt, alternatively diy.
You can solder the centre pin (if you have and can use a decent iron) and you can crimp the ferrule with a normal uninsulated balde crimper by doing multiple light crimps around the circumference.
I'll take your word for it having never used the Canares.
