Casino Royale and X-Men 3 are both in that ultra ultra widescreen format which really defeats the purpose of seeing them in HD because there's massive black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

How do I go about zooming in on Blu Ray movies on PS3 to get rid of them? Is it even possible?

I dont see how it defeats the point, after all its still HD and presented the same as its theatrical release.

Are you saying you would rather they chop chunks off the side of the picture

If you really hate black bars that much though your TV should have a setting that will zoom the image, you will loose the black bars but you will also loose picture quality.

On the XMB menu go to the Blu-Ray settings option on the far right, and down. Select the 'Pan and Scan' option. This will zoom the picture in to fill the whole screen on 16:9 TV's.

I don't see how that defeats the purpose. They are still in HD and the black bars are meant to be there. The movies are shown in the aspect ratio intended by the director. If you were to make any kind of adjustments like zooming in then you're not going to get the full picture in it's best HD quality. If you can't accept or understand that then maybe you shouldn't be watching them at all.
