im currently using 720p for my desktop, so it upscales my dvds to that resolution, but of course my true hi def films look better in 720p

what refresh rate do i need to set my desktop to for 1080i. i use powerstrip to make custom resolutions.

    thanks

Your desktop should be set to 1280x720 as that is the native resolution on your PJ (this is called pixel mapping 1:1). Any 1080i hi def material will be automatically rescalled by your PJ.

Err - if you are running with a permanent Windows desktop of 1280x720 and 1:1 mapping - then surely the 1080i material will be scaled by the PC not the projector?

In other words if the PC is permanently outputting 720p - then 1080i stuff replayed on the PC will need to be scaled by the PC

(PJ wasn't a typo for PC was it?)

If you are running your PC into a 1080i display - like an HDTV CRT display (direct view or projector) - then a 1080i output from a Windows PC would allow you to replay 1080i video with no scaling and in full resolution (so would improve over a 720p PC output being scaled by the display). However 1080i won't make Windows look very nice - as individual pixels will flicker at frame (not field) frequency - which isn't nice.

If you have a 720p native display then running your PC in 720p makes a lot of sense.

It should'nt. 1080i is an interlaced picture whereas 720P is progressive. The 2 different formats are about the same quality! There are many threads discussing which is the better format.
