How do i read or send message in-game??

Like the title suggests , i want to know if its possible to read a message or send one to a 'friend' whilst in game
eg. Mr X is online and i want to see what battle zone he is in on COD3?
How do i do it or cant it be done which makes the whole friends thing a bit pointless at the mo...unless they sort it..

It is not possible right now. They might fix it, or at least I hope they will.

You can't even chat to other plays whilist in the same game. Very strange choice by Sony, never played an online game where you can't text chat to other players.

I'm sure it will come, but at this stage, you can sure tell who out of Microsoft and Sony is the software and hardware company.
