Just got a dvd recorder so i'm a bit new to this, i've recorded some tv programs to DVD-RW media, i can play the dvd in any of my dvd players but when i put it into my pc (Win Xp Sp2) windows reports the DVD as blank.

I've had a search round and discovered this might be a known problem with Win XP, so i dowloaded the recomended hotfix for it and it still dosn't work.

Anybody any experience of this or any ideas how to sort it. Thanks.

You have finalised the disc on your DVD recorder first haven't you?

if you finalise the disc you can reformat (blank) it and add new stuff, but once formatted you can't add more to the disc. you could rip the material to the pc and reburn

some players will play non finalised discs, but most need it finalised

Some recorders will unfinalise (an RW DVD) too, some wont.

Not so. Some DVRs will unfinalise a DVD-RW so you can continue to use it as before.

I found that I was able to access disks that were not finalised by using Nero. You might want to do this if you are editing.
