How do I get Freeview HD?

Hi

I have freeview built into my TV (make is LG and model is 32LG7000) and get excellent reception. I have seen adverts saying you can get freeview HD, but can I get it on my TV without having to buy anything extra?

Two days ago I searched for new channels using the TV's built in search setting, but no HD came through. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just would like to add the "Freeview" post code site has never been accurate as according to them I should not be receiving it where I live but I get it fine. The same applies for my parents, but my enquiry is that they have just brought a new TV with built in "Freeview HD" how can they be sure when it will be received if the earlier information isn't accurate ????

The prediction sites all tend to the conservative rather than the optimistic view; the best way to be sure is simply to try it and see - kit that's not designed for the HD service will very often not even tell you if it can see a signal on the appropriate channel, though some will.

It's a touch irksome, but I'm pretty certain there would be far more people complaining if the prediction sites were optimistic, and people bought digital equipment, only to find that they couldn't in fact get a signal at home.

Even small variations in location can make a big difference to reception, and in the absence of a detailed survey of every street, a prediction is the best you're going to get.

Don't bother trying if you live in Scotland for ITV HD,as STV apparently not taken up the option.Thank goodness for Freesat.:smashin:

It's true you can't get ITV1 HD in Scotland....... because you now get STV HD instead!

Oh, and you can't get STV HD on Freesat, only on Freeview (currently in the Glasgow area, and throughout Shetland, Orkney & Caithness ) and on Virgin Media Cable.

So I'm not quite sure why you are saying 'Thank Goodness for Freesat'

ITV HD is available on Freesat obviously, but I was unaware that STV HD was available on Freeview.I had done a re-tune,and nothing came up for STV HD,and then I read that STV had not taken up the option. It wouldn't benefit me on Freeview anyway,as I don't have an HD box,but on the whole,ITV gives more programmes than STV anyway, unless you want to watch late night gambling.

It has not appeared on the EPG, but you can manually tune into STV HD on your Freesat box...

And you can manually tune it in on a Sky HD box, as follows:

Frequency: 10.935GHZ
Polarisation: Vertical
Symbol Rate: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
Label: 3855

I know this is listed elsewhere on these forums but it will do no harm to repeat it here.

Cheers,

Martin.
